Profile Dr.G.Samaram was born on 30th July, 1939 in Machilipatnam, Krishna District to Gora and Saraswathi Gora, well known freedom fighters, social reformers, atheists and close associates of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr.Samaram is a Doctor by profession but has involvement in multifarious activities. Dr.Samaram as a Doctor Dr.Samaram attained his MB;BS Degree from Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada and started private practice in Vijayawada in 1970. Since then, he has been a ray of hope for a number of suffering. He is instrumental in conducting and organizing hundreds of free health camps, immunization camps, school children health check up camps, Eye camps, Blood Donation Camps, Polio corrective surgery camps, Family planning camps and HIV blood test camps. He is putting in all his efforts to bring awareness in all sections of the society on HIV/AIDS. Dr.Samaram is the Executive Director of the Swetcha Gora Eye Bank. More than two hundred blind people, restored eye sight through corneal transplantation. For the eradication of superstitions, banamathi and chetabadi, Dr.Samaram led several teams to Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad , Nalgonda districts where the problem is acute. On invitation from the Superintendent of Police and district officials, Dr Samaram led a team consisting of doctors, scientists, magicians, mimicry artists and social workers to create an awareness regarding Banamathi. Dr.Samaram is the Honorary Director of the Police Medicare Centre, Vijayawada. Dr.Samaram is very active in Indian Medical Association activities. At local, State and National levels, he held highest positions. He got the ‘Best State President Award’ in IMA in the year 1980-81. He was the National Vice President of Indian Medical Association for the year 1996-97. Dr.Samaram as a Writer As a writer, Dr.Samaram has been striving hard to take medical knowledge within the reach of common man. Till now he has written more than 100 books on various subjects related to popular medical science. He is also the author of 3 novels – X clinic, Psycho and Aunty I love you (in Telugu). Some of his note worthy books are ‘Mee Intlo Meere Doctor’ , ‘Sukha Samsaram’ 'HIV/ AIDS' (Telugu & English) His articles are being published in Swathi, Anjali, and No.1 Cini weekly. For the past 15 years, Dr.Samaram’s writings have been patronized continuously in ‘Swathi’ Telugu weekly. He is a champion in health education and sex education. His writings were translated into Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi languages. The Maharashtra Government continuously for the past four years is publishing his articles in the school textbooks. Dr.Samaram as a Rotarian Dr.Samaram is a very active Rotarian. He belongs to the Rotary Club of Vijayawada. He joined Rotary in the year 1979 and since then has done commendable service. In the year 1994-95, he was the President of the Rotary Club of Vijayawada and during his tenure he has taken up several unique programs. For his remarkable services, he got prestigious awards like ‘Outstanding President in the District’ and ‘Outstanding Rotarian in the District’. During his President ship, Rotary Club of Vijayawada was ranked as Number One in the district bagging 39 district awards. This is a Record in the Rotary history. Dr.Samaram successfully for several years got ‘Best District Chairman Award’ He received the prestigious Awards like ‘service above self’ and this year for the ‘Extra-ordinary Performance and All round activity in the Business of Mankind’. Dr.Samaram was twice the Organizing Secretary for Rotary District Conferences held at Vijayawada and got high appreciation for his organizing ability. He was the Convener, Chairman and was a Resource person for several District Seminars, Conferences and Assemblies. Dr.Samaram and his wife Mrs.Rashmi are Paul Harris Fellows. Dr.Samaram as an Organizer Dr.Samaram proved to be a good organizer in various occasions - organizing seminars, conferences and workshops on a wide spectrum of topics. He also addressed a number of meetings on various occasions. He has organized Science Rallies, Demonstrations, Cultural Shows in Krishna District of the Bharat Jana Gnana Vignana Jatha sponsored by Government of India. Dr.Samaram as a social workerDr.Samaram as a Medical Doctor has been involved in conducting and organizing quite a number of medical, social work programs like Medical Camps, School Medical Checkups, immunization, health and family welfare programs in rural as well as urban areas. Besides these, he has proved himself to be a social worker by organizing various programs for street children, promotion of inter-caste and inter religious marriages and was instrumental in promoting National Integration Camps. He is regularly conducting Weekly Health Education Seminars on various Health topics involving eminent Specialists in medical field. Dr.Samaram also established a Permanent Medical & Health Exhibition educating public in his Nursing Home. This is unique exhibition of its kind. Dr.Samaram in association with various Voluntary Organizations have organized a number of programs for poverty alleviation, women and child welfare etc. He is also the Honorary President and Advisor for several cultural and social organizations. He is the Advisory Committee Member for a number of Government and Non-Governmental Organizations. Dr.Samaram is coordinator for Chiranjeevi Voluntary Blood Donor’s Club, Vijayawada. Dr.Samaram and his familyDr.Samaram’ s wife, Mrs.Rashmi is also involved in social service activities. She is the Secretary of Vasavya Mahila Mandali an organization working for the welfare of women, children and youth. She is the past District Chairman of Inner Wheel, District 302. Dr.Samaram is a proud father of two daughters, Jagathi and Rajatha. Jagathi, a General Surgeon is married to Dr.Hariharan, Consultant Anesthetist in the University of West Indies. Rajatha a post graduate in English Literature is married to Mr.Nageswara Rao. Software Engineer. Dr.Samaram and Rashmi are now proud grand parents of four grand children Sanketh, Dwithi, Nishwal and Sankalp.
